Central Wisconsin Save The Animal Group We are a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping animals in need. We started in 2004 and received our 501 (C) (3) in 2006. Horse Rescue CWSTAG is strictly a large animal rescue (i.e. equine). Individuals who are no longer able to care for their horses, and need to find new homes for them, may contact us. Horse owners with questions or concerns regarding proper care for their horse may use CWSTAG as a resource for information. We assist other equine rescue groups when we have the space. Unfortunatley, we are often times already full. We assist local and non-local Humane Societies and Sheriff/Humane Departments, helping with neglected/abused horses in need of urgent care. At this time we are helping the Dane County Humane Society, Adams County Sheriff’s Dept. and Juneau County Sheriffs Dept. CWSTAG works most of the time with horses that are in extreme need of specialized care and recovery from neglect/abuse situations.
Info on Surrender We also have lots of references from other rescue groups who have worked with us along with Humane Officers/Deputies/Sheriff's Departments/Humane Societies that we have helped. It is our mission to make sure that the horse (s) are placed in caring and loving homes, and that the horse and new owner are compatible.
If you are interested in surrendering your horse (s) we will be happy to help assist you in any way we can. We know that times are difficult right now for a lot of people. If you are not able to keep or afford your horse (s) you can contact us, and if we have room, we will take in your horse (s) without judgment. We are also in contact with other rescue groups, so if we are not able to take in your horse (s) at that time, we can give you their website so you can e-mail them. If you are interested in surrendering any other types of animal (s) there are many rescue groups in the State of Wisconsin. If you need help in finding a home for your animal (s) you can look under Petfinder.com and search for rescue groups in your area they have e-mail addresses for you to contact them or you can contact your local Humane Society.
We believe we owe it to our pets to try and find them a caring and loving home instead of abandoning them and thinking "Someone will pick them up"
Adoption Information & Application Our adoption process consists of these following things: 1. Vet Reference. 2. Farrier Reference. 3. Three Personal References. 4. Community Service
CWSTAG President – Shirley Hoel, is a certified Humane Officer. She attends continuing education classes on an on-going basis. She will lecture on horse related care issues to interested groups and organizations. She has had extensive training & experience in dealing with horses that have special needs and feeding requirements.
Other Animals in Need
We have a signed agreement with the Columbia Co. Humane Society, if CWSTAG is contacted about taking in a smaller animal they will be directed to the Humane Society. CWSTAG can only (maybe) help with small animals if the Humane Society confirms they are full. Confirmation of a full-capacity must come from the Humane Society. CWSTAG occasionally assists with smaller animals such as dogs & cats. However, we do not have the facilities to house smaller animals, so we are limited to aiding through web postings, and contacting other organizations.
Many Humane Society websites will now let individuals post their pets up for adoption while the pet remains with the current owner. Please check them out.
