About Us

Central Wisconsin Save The Animal Group is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping animals in need.  We started in 2004 and received our 501 (C) (3) in 2006.

We deal strictly with large animal such as equines, but occasionally will get smaller animals such as cats and dogs in.  We do not have the facilities to house smaller animals so we are limited to what we can take in.  We also have a signed agreement with the Columbia County Humane Society that if anyone contacts us about taking a small animal in that they need to contact the Humane Society first to see if they have room.  We are only able to help (maybe!) with small animals if the Humane Society tells you they are full and cannot take your animal in at that time.

We are usually contacted by local and non-local Humane Societies and Sheriff/Humane Officer Departments as to whether we are able to help take in neglected/abused horses in need of urgent care.  At this time we are helping the Dane County Humane Society and the Juneau County Sheriff's Department.  We do however; get contacted by individuals who are no longer able to care for their horses and need to find homes for them.  We are also contacted occasionally by other rescue groups to see if we have room to help and sometimes are able to if we are not full already.

We deal also mostly with the horses that are in extreme need of care.  Shirley is a certified Humane Officer herself and attends classes to keep up her certification.  She has also had extensive training in dealing with horses that have special needs and feedings.
